SMOOVEjournal | Project Goals

Hey! How are you doing?

It goes without saying that strategies within the union are an integral part of the organization that wants to be on top and be associated with today's innovation. As a Student Union, we need to build our concepts and ideas, strategise, and systematise everything.

Not that long ago, we had to rely on the conventional, complex, multiple-paged project sheets to communicate our ideas. This takes way too much time, effort, engagement of other people, and financial resources.

Today, we certainly cannot afford such luxury. To grow rapidly and innovate, we need a truly fast and light technique, a mind map of sorts that’s easy to write, edit, and comprehend. We need a strategic management tool to quickly and easily define and communicate our ideas.

Structured in a very coherent way, these are the blocks on the Project Canvas:

  • Vision - What do we want to achieve with this project?

  • Pains - Problems that contribute to the current state, what needs to change?

  • Assumptions - Why will this plan succeed?

  • Solutions - How can we disrupt and transform the current system?

  • People - Who can we collaborate with to create this change?

  • Influences - Events with influence or can help sustain the current situation

  • Goals - Specific goal for this project

  • Objectives - What do we need to create this change?

  • Outcomes - What does success look like?

  • Indicators - How will we know we're on the right path?

  • Story - Key elements of the new narrative we want

  • Asks - How can audiences and allies help? What's our asks?

  • Actions - Key activities needed to support people in taking action and creating a shift

  • Risks - Possible reasons for failure

  • Metrics - What's our quantifiable success metric?

The performance of the Student Union can easily be improved using the Project Canvas. This is useful for fine-tuning and structurally improving strategies. If we think about it, it's a fairly comprehensive set of building blocks we’ll need. So we can always look back and see immediately — it’s just one page, after all.
